his Most Exalted Majesty riding off to battle
For the past two decades Gluttonia had flourished under the
careful management of Ferdinand the III. It is only recently that the
Small Plate heresy has been upsetting the peace and calm of the
prosperous countryside that is blessed with a fertile landscape and a
diligent, hardworking populous. Ferdinand, known affectionately as "Fat
Ferddy" to his subjects, saw to the maintenance of peace within and
without his lands.
Ever the orthodox he firmly followed the traditional dictates of
three (large) meals a day with some rousing rounds of beer after dinner.
A strict believer in observing every available Feast Day he petitioned
the Pope (unsuccessfully) to create more Saints so as to fill in the
remainder of the calendar. A bold and vigorous man who believed in
setting an example in all endeavors he occasionally got himself into
trouble by substituting enthusiasm for skill.
Ferdinand was a perfect descendant of the eight century old House
of Flamboise, which had risen to power largely on the fecundity of their
queens (Oswald the First, the founder of the dynasty, exhausted three
wives having seven sons and nine daughters which he married off to all
of the surrounding royal houses) which has allowed them to acquire vast
tracts of lands by the simple expedient of being on both sides of the
blood line when a Lord passed away. "Inheritance is more powerful than
any army!" was one of Benedict III favorite maxims.
His passing on the field of battle (a first for a member of the
House of Flamboise) has left a yawning hole in the hearts of his people
and a (large) empty throne in the center of his capital. All his
subjects miss him and pray for his soul.
