Rex Mortuus Est, Vivat Rex

HORRIBLE NEWS FROM THE WILD BOOZONIAN COAST!

The fifth of November 1619A.D. Terrible news has come to our attention; far away on the Boozonian coast in a tiny fishing village near Bowmore and brawl between bands of ruffians has caused the death of an entirely innocent man; Clauz IV de Flamboise. Local citizens having suffered at the hands of the ruffians throughout the night heard a series of armed clashes just after dawn. After the smoke had cleared and the rabble had dispersed the villagers crept out into the sunlight to find dozens of corpses scattered across the fertile countryside. Among those lifeless bodies was the distinguished person of Claus IV, struck dead from a musket shot to the face. Locals gathered his effects including a gold signet ring, fine clothing and a war-horse branded to the royal House of de Flamboise. The local sheriff has verified these facts.

The identity of the ruffians remains unknown, some claim that it was rival bands of Nordlandzer and Frozonian pirates settling a score or searching for hidden loot, more truthfully others just shrug and say that they don't know.

A second tragedy has struck the House of de Flamboise in the space of two months, what further sorrows will befall the tearful land of Gluttonia?

the once-quiet village of Brineyville, north is to the right
as a small action this game was played out using 28mm figures and Pikemans Lament rules
turn one, rival bands enter the table (the Good Reader is asked to kindly forgive the use
of Nine Years Wars figures in this game as I lack 28mm Thirty Years War minis)

turn two;moving quietly the bands of ruffians began to spread out and search the houses

turn three; the village is now thoroughly alarmed and
terrified as the wandering bands of hooligans are  questioning anyone they meet

turn four
many wary and unfriendly glances are exchanged between the rival groups,
but they have not identified who each other are as yet, so no shots are fired

the stone house at the south end of town is shuttered up tight and no one answers the door
while a terrified Farmer McNulty is questioned by three different groups of men in his barn at the center of the village

farmer McNulty insists that it is odd that a "Gentleman's Hunting Party" is out and about
at such a wee hour of the morning, a charge that none of his questioners has an answer to

a second band of horsemen try to gain entry to the stone house,
battering the door and demanding to be let in

while that is going on a group of lads exit through a rear window and run into the woods,
only to be confronted by armed men with lit matches in their muskets

another band of stalwarts exit the tower and mount the horses that were tethered in the field nearby and promptly ride south where they are confronted by armed riders in McNuty's potatoe field

while the riders are allowed to pass along, the group in the woods is closely questioned

fearful of being done in by the gathering enemy, the red-coated lads from the
stone house open fire on their interrogators , knocking down three

they are promptly assailed by a band of ruffians from the other gang,
they give a good account of themselves well and lay four of their enemy low
but lose two of their company in the process

at this time a skirmish breaks out wherein the ruffians
band together to kill all of the horsemen from the tower

noble lives so cruelly wasted by common criminals!

a second party trying to escape from the tower in cornered in a woods and shot to pieces
among the dead is found a tall young man with fine clothes, a golden signet ring  with a musket shot to the face, surrounded by weeping friends who cried "Why would you do such a thing to Claus?"
